Riau Malay People

"Allaaaaahhhh Achbar...."you hear chanted over the loudspeaker from the local mosque as you are awakened from a deep sleep. "Prayer is better than sleep" it chants. You then remember that you are not at home and have traveled to the Riau Province in Central Sumatra among the Riau Malay people. They are a very simple and hospitable people, and have welcomed you during your stay.

While everyone is rising and preparing for their morning prayers, you remember for a minute that Jesus too, "awoke while it was still dark" and prayed. And so you too, get up and pray.
