I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2: 1-4 ![]()
Pekanbaru
The capital city for the Riau Province. Click here to take a journey along the marketplace, or perhaps visit the Great Mosque. The province of Riau , situated on the eastern side of Sumatra , is home to a wide variety of people groups, the majority of whom are Melayu Muslims. For these people, Islam is more than a religion; it is their identity and culture. They often say that to be Melayu is to be Muslim and are proud to call themselves Muslim. Yet they are a lost people, where Allah is distant and cannot assure them of an eternity in heaven.
Siak
Take a journey through the city named after the river it sits on. This is a land rich in history and culture, yet it is also a land covered in darkness, a land whose people cannot see how lost they are and cannot fight the spiritual strongholds surrounding them. This virtual prayer journey takes you into the Riau Province . Though its capital is Pekanbaru, where people from different ethnic groups meet and mix, the heart of the province is Siak. To begin the journey, click on one of the dots on the map. Each link will take you to a different part of the province; each page has specific points for prayer. You will see many parts of Riau, from the palace in Siak, to the market in Pekanbaru, though these are but glimpses of the province. Please journey with fellow believers around the world in praying for the Riau Melayu. |
