Bukittinggi - a bridge

Bridge Bridge

Out on the main road we meet a group of high school girls walking home. The bridge behind them reminds us of "bridges" that might help Minangkabau people understand the good news. For example:

•  Promises of a sure salvation may address a fear of death.

•  Demonstrations of Christ's power over spirits may address a fear of the unseen world.

•  A follower of Christ may remind religious people of the positive things said about Jesus in their own book: his birth without a human father as God's word, his mother's exalted status, his ability to heal and raise the dead, and his return to judge the world on the last day.

However, these high school students have been taught interpretations of the relevant verses in their book that discourage any attempt to explore further.

•  Pray for those who encourage Minangkabau to see the truth behind these hints about Jesus.

•  Pray that the Holy Spirit will use people's fears to turn them to the one who can deliver them.

•  Pray for high school students, like these girls, that any teenage restlessness they have may drive them to look for the One who brings freedom.

Go on to Batusangkar.
