Brunei Prayer Journey
Kampung Ayer
Kampung Ayer, the "Water Village," sits in the center of the Brunei River in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei's capital city. The traditional home of the Brunei Malay, as many as 25,000 Malays live in Kampung Ayer today. It is a self-sustaining community with its own schools, clinics, mosques and restaurants. Many residents work elsewhere in Bandar Seri Begawan, often in government offices. In the morning, they can catch a water taxi like the one pictured above, which will take them to their cars, parked elsewhere.
If you take a water taxi across to the village and walk along the paths, you will see children going to school, older men fishing, and a mother watching her children play in the river. The people are very friendly and the children will most probably greet you and wave.
- Pray that those who live in this unique river community would discover that "where God's river flows, there's life" (Ezekiel 47:9).
- Pray for teachers at Kampung Ayer's schools, some of whom follow Jesus, to show their students the love of God through words and actions.
