West Sumatra Grand Mosque
Construction began in 2007 and the building was first used for Friday prayers in 2014.
Traditional Minangkabau architecture is reflected in the upward-sweeping roof lines and traditional weaving in the carved panels.
With a capacity for 20,000 worshippers, this mosque is designed to accommodate regional events. Mosques are everywhere. Every community has one and most people in the city would live within easy walking distance of maybe 5 different mosques. The 5 daily prayers may be recited at home or in a mosque although, mid-day on Friday, the men are expected to gather at a mosque and the prayers will be followed by a sermon. Children receive daily religious instruction at their local mosque after school.
- Ask that, as Minangkabau people prostrate themselves before God in prayer, He will more than answer their prayers through revelations of Jesus.
- Pray for God to raise up Minangkabau leaders who seek him with all their heart, know him intimately through Jesus and joyfully share him with others.
