Western Breakfast

Croissant

You enjoy your "Western" food realising that, while Minangkabau people love to eat, you are unlikely to find familiar food at many of your stops in this largely monocultural province.

Minangkabau are fiercely proud of their rich cuisine and that, in one survey, their rendang (spicy coconut curry) was voted the most delicious food in the world. Living standards have improved and what was originally special occasion food is now everyday fare. As a result diabetes, heart disease and stroke claim the lives of many middle-aged people.

Although doctors often encourage healthier food choices, it is hard for people to change their diet. Even trying new kinds of food can be intimidating. Introduction of western fast-foods into the bigger cities is beginning to have an influence, although not always for the better.

Increased access to media via satellite television and smart phones means that Minangkabau can access new 'spiritual food' choices.

Pray that many will overcome their fear of the unfamiliar to 'taste and see' that what Jesus offers brings life, not death.

Now you must choose what to do with the day.

You wander down to the front desk to look at the brochures and decide what you will do next.
