Minangkabau International Airport

From your window seat you have an uninterrupted view of the provincial capital. Jetty-like stone buttresses built out from the beach are an attempt to slow the natural erosion that is eating away at the coastline. This region has many spiritual buttresses too. Religious and political leaders call for increased religious fervor to protect against the tide of globalization and associated immorality. These spiritual buttresses form a barrier against the gospel.

Padang City

  • Ask that God will give you His heart for this beautiful place as you see and learn about the people who live here.

  • Pray that, just as the stone buttresses will not hold out against the abrasive action of the waves forever, so God's power will overcome the spiritual barriers to the gospel in this place.

Spiritual barriers to the gospel include:
    • no strong Minangkabau community of followers to belong to
    • religious pride and fear of new ideas
    • intense social control
    • teaching that the Bible is irrelevant or corrupted and ignorance of what it says.
