Rajah Indragiri

Rajah Narasinga II (Rajah = King) came from Malacca in 1473 and ruled the Indrigiri Hulu kingdom until 1532. A complex hidden behind a small village now holds his remains along with other royal descendents and ministers. Bright splashes of yellow, the royal color, and shiny red tiles decorate the grave markers. Village people, travelers and spiritual leaders come here to pray in the ‘presence’ of these great leaders with the hope that they will gain the wisdom, success and knowledge attributed to them. Should their prayers be answered, they will offer thanksgiving sacrifices when they return to the gravesite. Many people flock to the gravesites during the two major Islamic celebrations of Eid al-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr.

Do not put your trust in princes, and mortal men, who cannot save.
Psalm 146:3 (NIV)

  • Pray that the Riau Malay would place their trust in the Living God, and not in mortal rulers and spirits of darkness. Isaiah 40:18-25 (NIV)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Proverbs 1:7; 3:5-6 (NIV)

  • As Riau Malay come to this grave, seeking knowledge and wisdom, pray that they would recognize the emptiness of the graves before them and worship and serve the True Source of all wisdom and understanding.

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offering…
Psalm 51:16-17 (NIV)

  • Pray that the Riau Malay will have a broken spirit and a contrite heart and turn to the Living God through Isa Al Masih (Jesus the Messiah).
