Boat Making

Many Riau Malay men spend their days on the water searching the rivers and sea for their food and livelihood. A people known as the 'Palembang people' remain on the shore building small and large wooden fishing boats to carry the Malay men out onto the water.

The boats are constructed on the shoreline. Lumber is carried to the water’s edge, the boards are fashioned to curve around the hull and the ship is built from the ground up. Fishing boats are often painted bright colors and can be seen on the horizon as the Malay men cast their nets.

Jesus called them and immediately they left the boat
and their father and followed him.
Matthew 4:21b-22 (NIV)

  • Pray that the Riau Malay would respond to Jesus’ call to follow him and become "Fishers of Men".
  • Pray that the future Riau Malay believers will be like the first disciples and leave everything and follow Isa Al Masih (Jesus the Messiah).
